Acting out festive fun

This week we had our Christmas party, which attracted some faces we haven’t seen for a spell and new ones too. Landlord John did us proud with a tasty buffet, and there were games and Secret Santa gifts, doled out by George. Acting Out FESTIVE fun!

notes from the new members night

Last week we held our very first New Members Evening with great success! We welcomed seven potential new members and gave them a taster of what it’s like to be a member of our group. The first half of the evening, after welcome and introductions, was spent playing ice breaker and drama games, to much hilarity! The second part of the night saw us splitting into two groups to work on bringing a script to life. We chose an extract from a piece by one of our own writers, Al, and each group prepared their rendition which was then performed to the other group. Again there was much hilarity! Overall we definitely showed the newcomers that Acting Out is fun!

Plans and shout video going live

Blog from Dean: “There was a small gathering of 7 of us this week at Acting Out this week and we mainly spent the week having a social catch up but we had some important business to discuss to. We brainstormed ideas of what we do in our new members evening, which was due to be on November 18th but has since been postponed to December 2nd due to room availability. Do not fear if you are attending for the first time on that night. Firstly you won’t be alone as it’s a dedicated new members evening and second, there will be some fun ice breaker activities plus a script thrown in so everybody gets a chance to be involved”

Other exciting news, our contribution to the Shout festival, “Are You Worthy” will be being premiered on Friday 12th November, at 18.00 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ywq9bkoEnU

AO on location!

Debut blog, by Craig!

On Thursday night members of Acting Out met up at the Coffin Works in order to film Are You Worthy, our contribution to the SHOUT Festival 2021. Are You Worthy is short piece originally performed on stage as part of our 2016 production of The War Compendium – written by Kevin E Barnard one of our talented writers in the group. I don’t want to give too much away though so you will have to watch this space to see it for yourself! We were all a little nervous as we are used to performing on the stage in front of live audiences but Sarah our Director, and Jakub who stepped in to film our performance soon helped us relax. We had lots of fun putting this together and I hope it will be well received. A big Thank You to Simon and Sayeed who gave great performances, Thank you to Sarah for Directing and providing the space and props, and Thank you to Jakub and the SHOUT festival for commissioning and filming.

Back to the Boozer!!

This week we finally made it back to our pre-Covid home, The Craven Arms, and it was good to be back, even when joined by the scooter boys (who are also back).

This proved to be a popular move, as we had the highest turn out for quite some time.  This week was a catch up with people we’ve rarely seen outside of Zoom calls for the last however long. We will be resuming meeting at the pub from here on in, and potentially pick up previous projects or embarking on new ones. In the meanwhile – cheers!

A very brief blog!

This week, we finalised the cast and director for the piece we are submitting to Shout –  “Are You Worthy?”, which concerns refugee/asylum seekers. And then we decided that next week we will venture back to the Craven Arms. And that was about it! The End!
